Total Number of Mobile Phone Users in India

Total number of mobile phone users in India has reached 791.38 million and this data is provided by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday. We all use mobile phones and in recent times India has added mind whopping 20.2 million new subscribers in February in India. Now if we talk about total number of subscribers which include both wireless and wired subscribers, it is 826.25 millions. India is at the second place after China in terms of fastest growing wireless market in India. If we go by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) there was a growth mainly by Urban sector, though rural areas have contributed too but urban area is dominating in this. According to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) there is increase of 11.47 million of broadband users in India too. According to TRAI, India wireless users will increase by 900 million by 2012 and the 1.25 billion by 2015. Broadband users will increase to 100 million by 2012.

If we look at the total number of subscribers added by various carriers and their current number, it is as follows,

  • Airtel increased 3.2 million mobile phone users in India to make it to 159 million.
  • Vodafone added 3.56 million mobile phone users in India to make its subscriber base to 130.92 million mobile phone users.
  • Uninor added 1.27 million users to make it present to  21.57 million users
  • Idea Cellular increased 2.51 million mobile phone users,taking it to 86.8 million.
  • Reliance Communications added 3.3 million new mobile phone users, and took subscriber base to 132.18 million.
